State Senate Candidate Dickerson First to File Petition

March 12, 2012

First to enter the race, and now first to file

NASHVILLE, TN. – Dr. Steve Dickerson, the Republican candidate for the State Senate in District 20, has been the first to file his petition to appear on the ballot for the Republican Primary to be held on August 2, 2012.

“I am proud to be a conservative candidate for the State Senate. As a physician and small business owner I will bring a commonsense approach that keeps government small and creates jobs,” said Dickerson.  “Meeting with citizens across the district I have encountered overwhelming support for my candidacy and my commonsense conservative approach.”

Dr. Dickerson is the first candidate that has filed all the appropriate documents to the Davidson County Election Commission in order to appear on the ballot for the Republican Primary in August.  Dickerson was able to collect enough signatures that all sixty-seven spaces of the petition were filled out by constituents of the new 20th State Senate District. State law only requires that twenty-five signatures be received in order to appear on the ballot.

“I believe that this shows great momentum for our campaign, to go above and beyond the required number of signatures in order to appear on the ballot for the Republican Primary.” Dickerson continued, “I am truly humbled by the amount of support that our campaign has already received this early into the election, and believe that it will be the difference that will carry us through August and to victory in November.”

Dr. Dickerson was also the first candidate to announce his intentions to run for the 20th State Senate District in January of this year.

Steve Dickerson is a practicing physician and founding partner of Anesthesia Services Associates. Dickerson attended the University of the South in Sewanee graduating with a B.A. in History. He then received his medical degree at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University. Steve Dickerson has been married to his wife Katrina for 19 years and they have three sons, Reid, Evan, and Bennett.

State Senate Candidate Dickerson Pledges to Decline Per Diem

February 15, 2012

True fiscal conservative walks the walk on reducing government spending

NASHVILLE, TN. – Dr. Steve Dickerson, the Republican candidate for the State Senate in District 20, has announced that while serving as State Senator he will not accept a per diem.

“We are in an economic crisis. Millions of Americans are out of work and still more are struggling to make ends meet. Tennesseans are cutting back on many essentials and I believe that taxpayers shouldn’t foot the bill for my lunch and housing when I live in the city where I work. Its time to end the free lunch program for politicians in Nashville,” said Dickerson.

The current law allows for Tennessee lawmakers to receive $171/day per diem to cover the cost of lodging and meals. The per diem is money paid in addition to salary and mileage reimbursement.  According to the National Conference of State Legislators,

Tennessee currently ranks 8th for the highest per diem amount paid.

“We need more ‘conservatives’ who walk the walk not just talk the talk,” commented Dickerson. “America’s economy is on the brink of collapse and we must end the politicians’ spending spree. In Tennessee, that means putting an end to the financial ‘perks’ of being a politician. It is just nonsense that I would ask taxpayers to buy my lunch and pay for my housing when I live in Middle Tennessee where the Capitol is located. Paying for my own meals and sleeping in my own bed is a small step in restoring fiscal sanity to government but is really what we should demand of our elected officials.”

Steve Dickerson is a practicing physician and founding partner of Anesthesia Services

Associates. Dickerson attended the University of the South in Sewanee graduating with

a B.A. in History. He then received his medical degree at the Bowman Gray School of

Medicine of Wake Forest University. Steve Dickerson has been married to his wife

Katrina for 19 years and they have three sons, Reid, Evan, and Bennett.

Steve Dickerson takes to the airwaves

February 9, 2012

Republican Steve Dickerson, an anesthesiologist running in the state legislature’s 20th Senate District, is up on the air with one of the first radio spots of the 2012 election season.

The 30-second ad, which we’re told aired at least once this morning during Steve Gill’s show on WLAC, describes Dickerson as a conservative who will focus on “cutting taxes, improving our schools, protecting the life of the unborn and putting Tennessee back to work.”

Listen to it here.

In a press release announcing the spot, Dickerson made reference to the crowded field that could develop in the 20th, where state Sen. Joe Haynes has declared he will not run for re-election.

“While other people may be considering whether or not to run, I want to make sure that the voters of the 20th Senatorial District know that I am not only running but ready to serve them.”

Dickerson took 43 percent of the vote in his 2010 run against Democratic Sen. Douglas Henry, a West Nashville mainstay now in his 11th term. Dickerson’s home was redistricted this year into the 20th, which now forms a c-shape that begins in Donelson, wraps around the western Davidson County and ends in the Edmondson Pike area.

The new district is believed to be more Republican-leaning than the old 20th and 21st districts.

Steve Dickerson Announces Run for State Senate

January 11, 2012

Nashville, TN – Steve Dickerson announced today he will seek the Republican nomination for state Senate in the 20th District.

“As we enter the new year our state and nation face economic uncertainty, high unemployment, and an increasing sense of distrust of government. I have made the decision to enter this race for state Senate to confront these challenges head on.”

“With my background as a practicing physician, as well as my experience as a small business owner I have a unique perspective to bring to the state Senate and I will use that to best represent the values of the 20th district.” Dickerson said.

Steve Dickerson, a long-time resident of Nashville, is a founding partner of Anesthesia Services Associates, which has multiple practice locations through-out Tennessee. He has been married for 19 years to wife Katrina and they have three sons.

Dickerson continued by saying, “I want to work with the governor, lieutenant governor, and members of the state Senate to make sure our state government runs efficiently and effectively. One of my principle beliefs it that the government that is closest to the people is the one that governs best. As a state Senator I will follow that principle.”
